Winter was on it's way. The mountain tops around Aviano were dusted with snow. We decided to head up to Piancavallo to check out the sledding. The snow was brand new and blowing like crazy. It wasn't really sledding weather, but the kids didn't care one bit! The big kids hadn't seen snow since Montana and Kelsey had no memories of her short time there. While they did fuss about the snow blowing in their faces, and they had to go potty at totally different times, our time in the snow was fun. It was on the way home that an angel had to save us. I say an angel because after he helped us in the most perfect way, he literally drove off and completely disappeared! We were out driving around the holiday neighborhoods of Piancavallo. No one really lives in these particular houses year-round. They just use them for ski holidays so no one was around when we got stuck. Dustin sometimes thinks our van is a four wheel drive assault vehicle and go anywhere and do anything. Well we drove up a steep road that curved sharply to the right. We couldn't make it up the hill and ended up sliding back down so that we ended up perpendicular to the road- straight across. Of course there was a 10-15ft. drop-off into someone's driveway right behind us with only a wooden rail to keep us on the road! I was not happy! After a very, very long time of trying to get out of our predicament, along comes this German fellow out of no where. He says he knows just what to do. He had Dustin get in while he pushed the front of the car down the hill. What do you know? The van just slides around so that it's facing the exact way we need to go. After thank yous and hand shakes he drove off. We were close behind him, but by the time we arrived at the end of the road he was out of sight!! I swear he was an angel sent to save Dustin from certain death! :)
